Analysts have at least four roles to perform. They have to plan strategically, they have to have an analysis for the business, they have to make and process the design and lastly they have to outline the business rule and procedures in the information technology area.

In some companies the system analyst also serves as the analyst in the business while others have the two separated. Some analysts find other careers as project managers or even consultants.
