The Importance of Sports in American Society

Watching sporting events seem to be something very typical among Americans. In one way or another, people in this country are cheering for a specific team. Whenever their favorite teams play with a home court advantage, supporters fill the stands, especially if the team is playing against its archrivals.
Americans’ fondness for sports and watching sporting events may date back to their youthful years. Parents do their best to expose their children early, giving them the opportunity to both be fans of their home teams and actually play the sports themselves. When they see their children participate in team competitions, parents lead the rest of the crowd in cheering for them.
The American love for sports is reinforced in school. Elementary schools, middle or junior high schools, high schools, and even universities all have sports teams that are actively participated in and supported by students. Even after graduation, people continue to watch the games of their schools’ teams, this time as alumni who are reuniting with old schoolmates and cheering their hearts out.
Basketball, baseball, football, soccer and
rugby games are considered in the United States as a way for family and friends to reunite. This can be clearly seen during major sporting events, where people watch the game together, be it in the stadium, sports bars, or at home. They cheer and celebrate together when their respective teams win; they jeer and cry in despair when their teams lose.

Rugby games and other sports events are also being developed as a way to rebuild a lot of segments of American society. For instance, children in inner city neighborhoods that are plagued with rough elements are being reintroduced into the society through sports. By engaging them in sports, they build self-confidence and, at the same time, gain a means to reconnect with the rest of society.
Sporting events such as
rugby games play a crucial role in the American way of life. It is hard to imagine life in the United States without sports. Through sports events and the traditions that come with them, Americans get the opportunity to socialize and appreciate camaraderie with fellow Americans.
