Tips On Moving Electronic and Associated Devices

Many of us have many delicate electronic devices that will need some special care particularly if we are moving long distances with the help of interstate removalists. The chances of them being damaged during transit is much higher than regular items, and even worse repair bills can exceed the original purchase price. Summing up, electronic devices generally need some special packing and preparation before you move. Here are some tips for dealing with them before that big day.
- Minor Parts. New and modern plastic items can be broken easily. CDs and DVDs can also be damaged easily in transit. It is best to pull apart and separate any items before you start packing them. The stand of a TV might need to be taken off for example. Taking the time to pack each item separately is worth the effort.
- Original Boxes. Good removalists will have good packaging options for you. However, there is nothing like the original foam and boxing that your item came with. A little shaking can do a lot of damage. If you have not kept all those original boxes, you might want to think of recreating them. Some retailers or wholesalers may actually sell those boxes or even have them available free. It might be worth asking if you have a particularly delicate item that concerns you. There is nothing like the original box.
- Other Options. Good home moving companies will have a full range of packing materials and the investment might be well worth it. Good strong boxes that are designed for moving objects are important. There are a number of items from foam, plastics through to corrugated cardboard to take the shock out of any move.
- Fragile. It is important you note what your items are, and mark them as fragile. There is nothing worse than putting your expensive items at the bottom of the pile and having them crushed. It is important you note what is in what box for yourself and your moving company. You could easily forget.
- Labelling. Some of your electronic devices may have several components and cables. You might want to think about how you label and place these items in separate boxes. Colour coding labels can go a long way to helping you reassemble a home entertainment system for example. You might want to make drawings of the connections before you pull them apart and even mark your cables and connection points with labels that make your job easier at a later date.
- Insurance. More often than not the real value of an electronic item is much lower than the replacement cost. You need to make sure that you are covered for full repairs or the replacement cost. You might find that you only get half the money that you need to replace a broken laptop.
Packing well in advance and spending the time to make sure you do it right is always important. Especially when it comes to your electronic devices. There is no room for shortcuts here.
