5 Essentials When Choosing Property Valuation Software

6 July 2011 No Comment

Good property valuation software comes from many years of experience in the industry, and just as many years in developing software. It is a combination of these two very different fields, software development, and real estate management, that will result in the best products.

Property valuation software has become essential in the market for professionals to make decisions and to have better data available. Choosing the right package for a consultant, developer or any other professional is an absolute must. You must find software that is easy to use and provides data that in a standard format of your industry. As always, there are a number of software providers who will make many claims relating to them being the best. Avoiding the sales hype and marketing is essential. Buying the right product for your personal use or company use takes some analysis and consideration. Here are the essentials of any package you should be looking for.

  • Evaluation.Any good software, related to real estate or not, will have an evaluation period. It is confidence in the fact you will use it for a given period and learn it is very effective, that allows software producers to provide an evaluation period. For software as sophisticated as real estate development software, a 14 day evaluation period is required. It is not like you can make a decision in less than 5 days.
  • Ease of Use.A good software package should make your life easier. All too often there are software packages that take so much time to learn to use, and are so complicated to use, they defy the principle of having it – making our lives easier. Any good software package should be immediately useable, and only more sophisticated functions should take some learning from the user.
  • Customer Base.If software is being used by a larger number of people and companies, there is only one reason for that. It is the best. A larger consumer base means your ability to use the software can go with you. If you are working in one company, or you have learnt to use a package, and it is not widely used, your personal skills are limited and not what the majority of your industry is using.
  • Support.Support comes in many forms. It could be training videos. It could be a call centre. It could be how regularly the software is improved. Software support is a good indicator of how developed the provider and the software package is.
  • Integration.Any software package should be able to take data from other areas of your business. Most businesses will have other software that run and manage operations in their business, including such areas as their accounting and financial matters. Software that provides the most amount of integration into your existing software and application packages is definitely another reason to be choosing it.

Software for specific industries can often become so industry-centric it loses sight of the whole needs of any business in that particular industry. Modern real estate development software providers not only know their industry, and know what is cutting edge for their industry, but they understand the total needs of a business, and how their application can become a part of that.
