Getting Ready To Go On a Big Road Trip

29 September 2011 No Comment

Nothing is more wonderfully epic than getting your best friends together and hitting the road. You can already imagine it: you and your crew, favorite music blaring, the open road, the wind in your hair and not a care in the world. To get this ultimate feeling, it’s important to plan all the details ahead of time so that when you are on your way, all you have to do is enjoy the ride.

Your Route

First things first, where do you want to go? Get together with your friends and find out how much time everyone has, how much money everyone is willing to spend, and what season you want to go in. From here you should be able to narrow down your destination, and all you have to decide from there is what stops you will make along the way.

Your Accommodation

Where you choose to stay along the way is an important one to work out ahead of time, as it depends on budget and personal preference. If it is comfort you are after and money is not a problem, then hotels are probably the way to go. If money is an issue, then hostels are a great alternative to hotels as long as you don’t mind having other people around, too. If it is a caravan that you want, then you might want to consider rental costs as well as towing capabilities of your vehicle. If you want to get out into the bush and really rough it, then camping is by far the cheapest and most exciting of the options; nothing beats the great outdoors and hanging out by the fire with your best mates.

Your Transport

Preparing your ride for company and the open road is extremely important because in the end, that’s what it’s all about. The last thing you want to have happen is car troubles when you are supposed to be relaxing and enjoying yourselves. Here are a few things you might want to think about before you go:

Roadside Assistance – If you are not already a member of a roadside assistance company, then you definitely want to become one before you hit the road. The insurance will cover you for anything from loosing your keys to fixing small engine troubles to paying for a night of accommodation if your car needs to be serviced.

Car insurance – If you only have the basic compulsory third party insurance, then you may want to check out car insurance quotes for something that gives you and others a bit extra coverage in case of an accident. Nothing kills the enjoyment of a road trip more than being worried the whole time.

Get a Service – If you haven’t done it for a while, then your road trip is a good excuse for you to get your car serviced. If your car is already road ready, then at least check things like tire pressure and the oil and water levels. Check to make sure you have your spare tire, jack and jumper cables on-board.

Music – Every good road trip needs music and lots of it. Pick yourself up an mp3 adapter for your car so that all your friends can bring their music as well.

Now that you have all the boring tedious stuff taken care of, all there is left to is get out there, see it all and have a blast!
