Winter Snowstorm Welcomed by Online Casinos

23 December 2009 No Comment

Millions of Americans were forced to cancel their holiday shopping and travel plans when the season’s first big snowstorm stuck parts of the country’s Mid-Atlantic and New England regions. When life stood still and frozen for some, the internet’s online casino industry was heating up. Lucky Blackjack, a leading site for online casino information, reports that there was a significant spike in activity reported by many online casinos. Over 20 gambling websites were surveyed and in total they reported an average increase of 60% from the usual traffic generated by IP addresses located in the affected region.

When New York City, Washington D.C., Boston and Philadelphia residents were forced to bunker the storm they of course turned to the comforts of home. Along with music, television and movies, using the internet for home entertainment is one of the leading activities during a snowstorm. This week’s large accumulation of snow tuned into the perfect recipe for online gambling sites whose popularity continues to rise.

Regular land-based casinos in the region such as Foxwoods and those located in Atlantic City lost many visitors to their booming online competition. Those looking for a good card or slot game, whether for fun or money, used the convenience of technology to bring the casino to them. Tournaments for games like blackjack, poker and slots saw a huge influx in traffic and many websites added more competition to meet the demand.

The holiday season is typically slower for online gambling because people are out of the house more, but this week the industry got an early gift. Online casinos are dreaming of a white winter.
